Brief Description

Job Objective:

Under the immediate management of the Environmental Services Supervisor, performs duties of routine cleaning of patient and non-patient areas which results in a safe and sterile environment by cleaning and sanitizing equipment, furniture, walls, and floors in a timely and competent manner. Works in positions that are critical to environmental services operations, enforces hospital and department policies and makes schedule changes as needed. Takes charge of the Environmental Services department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for enforcement of department and hospital policies.
  • Responsible for working in critical positions during shortages of staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring schedules are covered.
  • Responsible for restrooms and entrances.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of floor care.
  • Responsible for cleaning upholstery according to schedule.
  • Routinely clean walls and dust vents.
  • Cleans and defrost refrigerators weekly.
  • Cleans stairwells, as assigned to schedule.
  • Cleans elevators and elevator door tracks.
  • Operates vacuum cleaner as needed.
  • Ensures EVS Aide closet and cart is kept neat and clean at all times.
  • Return dirty mops/cleaning cloths to assigned container daily.
  • Replace and re-stock supplies.
  • Always uses appropriate chemicals for cleaning.
  • Uses Universal Precautions at all times.
  • Dispose of medical waste according to policy.
  • Remove and replace sharps containers.
  • Signs in and out for required keys/beepers.
  • Monitors Teletracking system.

Non-Essential Duties:

  • Assist in other areas as assigned and within competency ability.

  • Knowledge acquired working in Environmental Services or similar profession.

  • Skills acquired working in Environmental Services or similar profession.
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft, Bed Control-Linen Services

  • Ability to complete successfully all competencies required to perform duties in assigned areas.
  • Ability to organize work and establish priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)
  • Ability to expand on own initiative in performance of duties.
  • Ability to function effectively under stress.

Education and Experience:

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred

Experience

  • Preferred experience in Environmental Services or similar profession.
  • One (1) year customer service experience

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Work requires bending, pushing, pulling and lifting.
  • Ability to lift 20-50 pounds
