POSITION SUMMARY

The General Manager oversees the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center (MPAC) and its staff under the direction of the Vice President of Operations. This role supports Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in operating a successful performing arts center by fostering a strong, long-term partnership between NSU and PACA, and by delivering exceptional production and customer service to ensure a positive experience for all stakeholders.

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with NSU and PACA Human Resources for the supervision of supplemental staff, student staff and volunteers, including coaching and training to ensure staff decisions and actions are consistent with organizational goals.
  • Directly oversee daily operations, including programming, marketing, production and technical services, event services, ticketing services, and guest services.
  • Collaborate with PACA and NSU Staff to establish and maintain theater operation policies, which will allow for safe and successful operations.
  • Attend all necessary internal and external meetings at both NSU and PACA in order to provide and receive accurate and timely communication regarding the coordination of the PACA's and NSU's initiatives and objectives.
  • Review operational performance, implement improvements and make recommendations regarding policies, programming, and emerging opportunities.
  • Coordinate and implement the delivery of support services from the PACA Staff, including Programming, Ticketing, Marketing and staff training.
  • Coordinate with appropriate NSU departments and delegate the scheduling of vendors, engineers on duty, custodial services, and work orders in order to maintain the venue.
  • Prepare, process, approve and monitor facility use estimates and contracts and/or related documents for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Maintain and regularly update the event calendar to reflect accurate, current information; coordinate and accommodate internal and external scheduling requests in a timely manner; and distribute event details to relevant departments in order to support efficient and successful event execution.
  • Collaborate with resources (PACA, NSU, users, etc.) to determine programming objectives in order to present a diversity of high quality, mission based, fiscally responsible and accessible events to the community and to leverage and maximize the return on the NSU/PACA/Community relationship.
  • Collaborate with NSU departments, including Student Engagement, student clubs and organizations, academic colleges, and various administrative units in order to actively contribute to and participate in the NSU community.
  • Collect, execute and summarize actual event related expenses in prepared settlements and/or approve such settlement statements as prepared by others on PACA staff.
  • Respond promptly to rental inquiries to support discovery, sales, and date availability; provide rental information and marketing materials to prospective clients; and meet with users to prepare estimates for staffing, equipment, and material needs, including associated costs.
  • Manage and delegate scheduling with MPAC staff for potential user (NSU or external) tours of facility and event planning.
  • Provide supervision and management during events when necessary to ensure the proper and effective execution of the event requirements and satisfaction of the user.
  • Collect and analyze user feedback to assess and enhance the quality of customer service.
  • Cultivate a positive image, by building a strong, positive relationship within the NSU community and surrounding community to attract a larger supporting audience.
  •  Utilize professional communication and relationship-building skills in all interactions with PACA, NSU, and community stakeholders to foster collaboration, strengthen MPAC’s image, and support the achievement of organizational goals.
  • Explore creative opportunities to optimize revenue and reduce expenses.
  • Establish and promote relationships with user groups and renters for usage of the building.
  • Audit work site to determine safety.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.

  • Ability to maintain a physical presence at designated work locations, maintaining regular attendance, punctuality and work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and events is required.

  • Knowledge of a Performing Arts facility operation, maintenance, accessibility, and technology.
  • Skilled in all aspects of a fast-paced, high volume theater production.

  • Prepare event settlements.
  • Provide technical estimates to users.

Desired Education And Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Business/Theater Management/Arts Administration/or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Masters preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in theater or venue management, performing arts operations, or related event coordination with foundational understanding of theater production, front-of-house operations, and event scheduling.
