Job Overview
Responsible for the mechanical design and development of medical devices; works on complex projects requiring evaluation of advanced theoretical studies or test programs. Collaborates in advanced mechanical design studies and considers the interrelationship between mechanical engineering and other functional areas during all phases of design. Develops solutions to mechanical design and test problems. May establish design objectives. Expected to act as Project Leader on a large, complex project establishing the project plan, budget, and timelines.

Job Overview

Job Responsibilities And Essential Duties
- Reviews and helps to develop product specifications
- Conducts conceptual design studies using MCAD design tools
- Collaborates with Corporate Design on product appearance and function
- P erforms detailed mechanical design work using MCAD design tools
- A nalyzes mechanical engineering data using computer-aided analysis and classical techniques to verify that designs meet requirements
- Coordinates the mechanical design schedule with the electrical engineering and software engineering efforts
- Develops prototype hardware using internal manufacturing resources as well as outside vendors
- Tests product to verify that designs meet specification requirements such as environmental, regulatory and safety requirements
- G enerates documentation supporting the design
- Coordinates the project plan, budget, and timelines
- 5-7 years of related experience in design/product development of electromechanical assemblies including technical supervision of projects or sub-projects
- A dvanced knowledge of FDA, IEC and UL standards relating to medical electronic equipment
- Formal training in basic and advanced topics in Pro/Engineer or SolidWorks is strongly preferred
- B ackground that includes the design of molded plastic or cast parts, sheet metal, cabling, and PCB’s
- Familiarity with dimensioning and tolerancing, thermal and structural analysis
- S trong technical and analytical ability
- E xc ellent verbal and written communication skills, ingenuity and creativity, interpersonal and project management skills
- P r oficiency with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat
- E x pert proficiency with MCAD/CAE software and database management software is strongly preferred
- A dvanced proficiency with Microsoft Project is strongly preferred
- A bility to use standard office equipment such as photocopiers, fax machines and calculators
- A bility to operate test equipment such as temperature/humidity chambers, chart recorders, simulators,
- Familiarity and the ability to operate basic shop equipment such as a drill press, lathe, milling machine, brake, and shear
- P r ovides technical leadership for junior mechanical engineers
