HR Business Partner/Employee Relations Specialist

Coastal1 Credit Union is seeking an HR Business Partner & Employee Relations Specialist who will be responsible for aligning HR initiatives, employees, and leadership in the branches and contact center. As a trusted advisor and change agent, you will foster leadership capability, enhance employee experience, and support HR program delivery that propels Coastal1 Credit Union’s growth and engagement goals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
HR Business Partner
- Work closely with leadership and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase employee satisfaction and retention. Provide leaders with the skills and knowledge to become more effective leaders to foster a positive workplace culture.
- Coach branch and contact center leaders on HR policies and procedures, talent planning, and change management.
- Manage end-to-end recruitment for branches and contact centers: define roles, provide input to workforce planning, source internal and external candidates, advocate for career development, coordinate interviews, and negotiate offers.
- Guide managers on annual performance reviews, performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions, and documentation best practices for consistent, fair corrective action across the organization. Empower leaders in handling employee related matters effectively.
- Lead investigations into employee concerns, ensuring impartiality and compliance with regulations.
- Attends monthly branch manager meeting to offer HR guidance and advice, offer up-to-date information on employment law and compliance, and assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and programs in the branches.
- Regularly visits the branches to foster strong relationships with both employees and leadership, providing valuable opportunities to engage with team members, understand their needs, and collaborate effectively.
HR Administration
- Serve as backup for benefits administration, ensuring accurate enrollment, life-event processing, and vendor liaison.
- Support HR operational tasks, including payroll backup: managing timely, error-free transactions and audit responses.
- Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws; translate changes into actionable guidance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
This role requires ON SITE availability in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, related field preferred or equivalent work experience.
- SHRM or HRCI certification a plus.
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience with a strong emphasis on employee relations and business partnership.
- Proven track record managing full-cycle recruitment and HR administration functions.
- In-depth knowledge of employment laws and corrective action frameworks.
- Experience with HRIS/payroll systems and benefit administration.
- Exceptional communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
- Must be well organized, detail oriented, have the ability to multi-task and the ability to use good judgement.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills. Proven ability to gather and analyze data and information.
- Proficient knowledge of PC’s and computer-based programs such as MS Office and assorted HR related software.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously with time management/organizational/ multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to maintain a positive and upbeat Credit union image.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sometimes controversial information securely.
- Established ability to work collaboratively across all levels and functions of the Credit Union to coordinate solutions.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Bi-lingual helpful
