The YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead our operations, foster growth, and uphold our mission to build a healthier, stronger San Diego.

As COO, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of the YMCA of San Diego County, ensuring the successful operation of our diverse branch and camp locations and departments, including Membership and Facilities. This pivotal role is responsible for operational program development, staff supervision, community relations, collaborations, budgeting, and achieving financial results.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business management, communication, organizational leadership, or a related field is required.

Experience: At least 20 years of YMCA executive leadership experience with multi-site operations, encompassing staff supervision and development, membership practices, program development and implementation, volunteerism, financial development, and facilities management.

Essential Functions

Executive Leadership & Operations Management: Provide overall direction and drive operational excellence across all branches and three overnight camp locations, ensuring financial targets are met and expenses are controlled. Lead initiatives for growth through program expansion, membership strategies, new site development, and strategic partnerships.

Facilities & Membership Oversight: Oversee the Association Facilities team, ensuring safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities while managing capital expenses. Develop and implement strategies to grow YMCA membership, leveraging data analytics to enhance programming and increase participant retention.

Strategic Planning & Program Development: Lead the organizational strategic planning process, coordinating action plans to achieve key performance indicators. Drive the development of long-range plans for program and service expansion, fostering innovation and ensuring high-quality, member-focused offerings.

Stakeholder Relations & Organizational Culture: Model exceptional relationship-building skills with staff, volunteers, members, and the community. Promote the YMCA by building strong collaborative relationships with external organizations and cultivate an exceptional workplace culture that inspires and drives team well-being.

Governance & Reporting: Provide comprehensive reports to committees, the Board of Directors, and the President/CEO, and offer staff leadership to assigned Board committees.

Required Certifications

Certifications: YMCA of the USA Organizational Leader Certification is required.

Standard Job Requirements

All staff members are required to be fingerprinted prior to reporting to work, with subsequent arrest notifications. CPR and First Aid certification are required within 30 days of hire (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety & Health Institute).
