The Geomorphology Laboratory at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), under the direction of Dr. Tian Y. Dong, invites applications for a funded master’s position. The successful candidate will participate in a Department of Energy-funded research project investigating water, sediment, and nutrient accumulation in the abandoned channels of the Rio Grande Delta, with fieldwork based in Bahía Grande, South Texas.
Requirements
– Bachelor’s degree in Earth/Planetary Sciences, Engineering, or a related field
– Strong background in mathematics, physics, and statistics
– Experience with numerical modeling (e.g., ANUGA Hydro)
– Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python)
Preferred Qualifications
– Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro) and Adobe Illustrator
– Skills in drone data collection and processing
– Previous fieldwork in geomorphology or hydrology
Position Details
– 12-month salary: $15,000 (renewable for up to two academic years)
– Tuition support, research supplies (including a laptop), and conference travel funding
– Opportunity to live in a region with low living costs and a vibrant economy
