About the Job
About Mach Industries
Founded in 2022, Mach Industries is a rapidly growing defense technology company focused on developing next-generation autonomous defense platforms. At the core of our mission is the commitment to delivering scalable, decentralized defense systems that enhance the strategic capabilities of the United States and its allies. With a workforce of approximately 120 employees, we operate with startup agility and ambition.
Our vision is to redefine the future of warfare through cutting-edge manufacturing, innovation at speed, and unwavering focus on national security. We are dedicated to solving the next generation of warfare with lethal systems that deter kinetic conflict and protect global security.
The Role
The Avionics Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing robust electromechanical systems for flight vehicles, ground system equipment, and test equipment. Understanding the fundamentals of electronic circuitry and mechanical design are a must for this role.
Key Responsibilities
This position may require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Please note that any offer for employment may be conditioned on authorization to receive software or technology controlled under these U.S. export control laws and regulations without sponsorship for an export license.
The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offers may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and training, critical skills, and business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in most offers and are considered part of Mach’s total compensation package. The Role
The Avionics Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing robust electromechanical systems for flight vehicles, ground system equipment, and test equipment. Understanding the fundamentals of electronic circuitry and mechanical design are a must for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the design, development, and validation of ruggedized avionics enclosures for flight vehicles, test equipment, and ground support systems.
- Create detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and specifications using CAD software (NX preferred—but we care more about skill than software).
- Engineer for the real world: design for manufacturability, weight efficiency, EMI shielding, shock/vibration resistance, and thermal resilience.
- Collaborate closely with electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless integration of your designs into larger defense systems.
- Perform hand calculations, structural analyses, and thermal/dynamic assessments to validate your designs—before testing proves you right.
- Build and test prototypes, then iterate based on real-world data to deliver solutions that work in the harshest conditions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical integration issues with urgency and technical rigor.
- Propose innovative enclosure designs that reduce cost, increase modularity, and improve performance across platforms.
- Contribute to internal standards and design practices, and clearly communicate technical risks, constraints, and tradeoffs to stakeholders.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., NX, CATIA, SolidWorks) for complex electromechanical assemblies.
- Working knowledge of PCB/electronics design software (e.g., Altium, Eagle, KiCAD) and electronic packaging fundamentals.
- Experience designing mechanical systems for high-reliability applications, preferably in aerospace, robotics, or defense.
- Strong foundation in core mechanical engineering: statics, dynamics, materials, and heat transfer.
- Familiarity with digital/analog electronics, communication protocols, and EMI/RF considerations.
- Ability to thrive in a high-iteration environment with evolving requirements and tight deadlines.
- Competence in the full design lifecycle: concept, CAD, analysis, prototyping, testing, and deployment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, ownership-driven mindset.
- Comfortable using both FEA tools and first-principles (hand calculations, FBDs) to validate designs.
- Must be available to work on-site at our Huntington Beach, CA facility.
- Deep experience designing avionics enclosures for aerospace or defense, with emphasis on ruggedization and maintainability.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 and other defense environmental standards.
- Hands-on prototyping skills: CNC machining, 3D printing, environmental and vibration testing.
- Advanced knowledge of material selection for extreme environments, including composite and high-performance alloys.
- Strong DFM/DFA instincts—your designs should look great on paper and the shop floor.
- Experience with UAVs, robotics, or other autonomous systems.
- Passion for industrial design and attention to the form, function, and tactile experience of hardware.
