West Chester University, a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, is seeking to hire a Licensed Counselor or Psychologist position with a background in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) for the Department of Counseling & Psychological Services (The Counseling Center). This is a full-time, tenure-track, 12-month instructor position within the Division of Student Affairs, awarded as one of the "Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs" by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education for the second year in a row.
This individual will be the lead Alcohol and Other Drugs counselor on campus and will be responsible for assessing students who are either self-referred, referred by colleagues/family/friends, or referred directly from the Office of Student Conduct. Primary responsibilities include short-term assessment and treatment of currently enrolled students who present with AOD issues. The candidate must be proficient in conducting AOD assessments, providing individual AOD counseling, consulting with students, faculty, and staff members on AOD concerns, and running counseling groups. This individual will also be expected to design, coordinate, and implement prevention initiatives for WCU.
Attention to the diverse needs and backgrounds of WCU students as well as an ability to collaborate with department counselors/psychologists, psychiatrists and other University health care professionals is a must. Because this is a tenure-track, non-classroom faculty position, the selected candidate will be expected to engage in ongoing scholarly activities (e.g., obtaining or maintaining professional licensure/certification relevant to one's discipline, professional publications and presentations) and to participate in service across the university.
To be eligible, an applicant must be licensed as a Counselor or Psychologist in Pennsylvania (or have Pennsylvania license eligibility). Clinical experience in a university counseling center setting is preferred. A Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) designation is desired.
