POSITION: Special Education Developmental Preschool Coordinator (Teacher)


CLASSIFICATION: Exempt - 186 or189 Day Contract


SALARY: Approved Certified Teacher Salary Schedule – Based on Education and Experience


REPORTS TO: School Principal and/or Director of Exceptional Student Services


GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Coordinator is responsible for oversight of the Early Childhood Program. To coordinate, administer services, and/or oversee special education services between MUSD and outside agencies and/or early childhood programs in order to ensure special education services are being provided. To ensure flexible programming for learning and personal growth in the least restrictive environment. To build strong ties between home and school; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Provides case-management duties for all preschool students attending outside early childhood centers within MUSD boundaries; to include those attending MUSD preschool.

  • Oversees the collection of data and assists teachers to report data within the state monitoring system

  • Coordinates testing with the ESS Department/School Psychologist.

  • Coordinates all transition to Kindergarten activities with the outside early childhood centers and the elementary schools.

  • Schedules and conducts meetings (IEP and evaluation meetings) with parents/guardians and staff for the outside early childhood centers and those attending the MUSD preschool.

  • Communicates regularly with the parents/guardians regarding their child's growth and areas needing support during the school day. Communicates how the school and other resources can help when issues arise.

  • Collaborates with the preschool team on lesson planning, curriculum mapping, and daily activities to ensure individualized needs are being met.

  • Supports the District by being present for parent/guardian activities.

  • Maintain compliant files and student database.

  • Conducts home visitations and meetings with parents off-campus.

  • Collaborates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

  • Creates a hopeful and effective learning environment for learning through in-service education activities and self-selected professional growth activities.

  • Prepares reports for assigned programs as required by the Director of Exceptional Student Services.

  • Assists with coordinating all Child Find Activities, to include screening children and/or interviewing parents.

  • Assists in the Child Study Team process for children within the early childhood program.

  • Attends appropriate county, State and area meetings and/or conferences.

  • Attends all necessary trainings and department meetings.

  • Conducts audits of all Evaluations, IEPs, and grant documents.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Exceptional Student Services.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:



  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws related to the education of students with special needs.

  • Working knowledge of the Arizona State Standards for the assigned grade level and/or subject area and possess the requisite ability to evaluate the alignment of those standards to instruction and the district's curriculum

  • Working knowledge of the Arizona State-approved assessments for the assigned grade level and/or subject area.

  • Working knowledge of and ability to effectively use and integrate technology in the classroom setting.

  • Working knowledge of a broad range of literacy techniques and strategies for every aspect of communication and must be able to develop each student's ability to read, write, speak, and listen to his or her potential within the demands of the discipline.

  • Demonstrated success in modeling effective reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills during direct and indirect instructional activities.

  • Demonstrated success utilizing current teaching techniques, effective strategies for differentiating instruction, and evidence-based classroom management strategies and techniques.

  • Effective data-based problem-solving and team collaboration skills used to drive and inform changes in classroom instruction.

  • Demonstrated success in collaborating effectively with teachers and students.

  • Demonstrated a high level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality and personal flexibility in all areas.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to perform the following physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation: critical sensory requirements include general vision, corrected to 20/20, hear or listen in the normal range (corrected) and speak and give directions clearly. Able to walk, sit, stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, lift (exerting force up to 50 pounds), carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 125 lbs.


REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:



  • A valid Arizona Department of Education Certification/Endorsement consistent with assignment (Special Education/Early Childhood)

  • Valid Arizona DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

  • Three years of successful teaching experience required
