Under the general supervision of the ESCI Administrator (Applications Programmer 3), the Evaluation System Assistant is responsible for assisting in the operation, management and technical troubleshooting of the Evaluation System for Courses and Instruction (ESCI), test scoring software and scanners, and supporting both the ESCI Administrator and Instructional Development Consultants in other aspects of evaluation and assessment. The Evaluation System Assistant will meet with, train, and respond to questions from academics, staff and graduate students related to evaluation and assessment. The position involves technical skills including, data management, data manipulation, electronic transfer, analysis, and report production; communication skills, including the ability to interact, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse group of clients in a professional and confidential manner, and time management skills, including the ability to manage simultaneous projects, requests and calendars under tight and shifting deadlines. Attention to detail and professionalism are critical for this position, as the ESCI and test scoring systems affect the entire UCSB campus. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in any discipline with significant data management and analysis as a standard element or equivalent combinationof education and experience. Applicants must have the ability to manage and understand data, identify patterns in data, and apply sound techniques and logic to solve problems. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential to the position. The position requires strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and calendars simultaneously. The position requires working under tight and shifting deadlines and maintaining strict confidentiality. The successful applicant will have the ability to work collaboratively in a highly motivated professional team. Desirable Requirements The following requirements would describe the ideal candidate in addition to the minimum requirements listed above. Significant experience in customer service or computer technical support, and ideally both. Considerable understanding of database structures, management, reporting, and data manipulation. Strong background in fundamental descriptive statistics, Excel (or equivalent spreadsheet), and Microsoft Word (or equivalent word processor). Familiarity with multiple file formats and mechanisms for converting files between formats. Special Conditions of Employment
