Position Summary:

The Senior Manager of School Leadership will report to the Director of Student Accountability. The Senior Manager of School Leadership will drive process improvement in various aspects of school management, operations, support, regulatory compliance, growth, and academic improvement. Some of these functions are managed directly through school resources, some will be managed collaboratively with the Director(s) of Schools, and some will be facilitated through centralized, shared services. The Senior Manager of Partner School Leadership will also act as subject matter expert for POBL internal department questions, training, and professional development and will complete projects, as assigned. Also, The Senior Manager will travel to schools throughout the country in order to support new School Leaders or to fill in for School Leaders when needed.


  • Deliver academic performance outcomes (state testing/accountability, course completion, graduation rate) by coaching school leaders and leadership teams to increase their skills as instructional leaders;

  • Help school leaders to maximize funded enrollment to meet state requirements (count day, attendance, course completion, ADM, etc);

  • Travel to schools around the country as needed to support or fill in for School Leaders who are not yet hired, newly hired, or on leave (i.e., Principals or Assistant Principals) (travel could vary significantly from little to intermittent, to extended visits);

  • While "substituting" at a school, the position may handle all of the key responsibilities for the School Leader in collaboration with PSLT and other School Leaders including:

  • Ensure the academic success of individual students by utilizing all levels of academic support available and by maintaining a high level of communication with parents to deliver program information and address individual student needs;

  • Manage the implementation of the proven Connections Academy curriculum and school operation protocols;

  • Ensure that teachers exhibit and maintain a high level of professionalism, instructional support and customer service;

  • Manage relationships with the Department of Education, and stay current on the state's policies, procedures and legislation, including specific special education procedures, etc;

  • Meet regularly with the Charter School Board;

  • Provide the Board with regular written and verbal reports and updates, as well as maintaining a high level of communication with other appropriate Connections Academy staff;

  • Assist teaching staff with implementing any program changes and/or new software application introductions;

  • Exhibit high quality communication with all Connections Academy staff, students and families;

  • Handle any student problems escalated by parents and teachers;

  • Oversee the contracting and/or delivery of special education services to ensure that the school is in compliance with state and federal laws;

  • Manage the budget and staffing of the school;

  • Oversee the implementation and coordination of state standardized testing process, and ensure high student participation rates;

  • Provide assistance to families in need of additional support and encourage a high level of participation in the program;

  • Participate in student recruitment efforts including in-state trips, presentations, Q & A sessions and responding to the press;

  • Communicate with parent Community Coordinators to suggest social activities and relevant field trips for students;

  • Devise and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a "school community";

  • Recruit, supervise and evaluate all school staff as required by the state and the school;

  • Manage reconciliation between Connections Academy's data systems and state and local student information;

  • Provide local Board of Directors with support including posting of Agendas, Board communication and providing specialized reports or information as needed under the direction of the Manager of Regulatory Compliance;

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Oversee and assist in tasks related to the start-up of new schools including, attending launch meetings, research of enrollment and regulatory requirements, sectioning, and supporting new School Leaders throughout the school year cycle;

  • Assist with the development of school-based leadership support infrastructure and training elements;

  • Serve as the main point of contact for all standard school data/metrics reports and requests including but not limited to:

  • Closely monitor and analyze school metrics such as, student achievement, teacher/family contacts, teacher workloads, parent satisfaction, student promotion and retention, escalation, state test results, graduation rates, etc. – and work to define, document, and disseminate "best practice" processes that ensure the resulting metrics reflect high quality delivery of service and/or successful student achievement and other performance outcomes.

  • Assist schools with outlining and using key data points to supporting school improvement efforts.

  • Provide accurate and timely reports to share with School Boards and other authorizing bodies as needed.

  • Ensure OBL teams are keeping key metrics at the forefront when creating new plans or processes for a school.

  • Data training sessions with school leadership and leadership teams.

  • Work collaboratively with teams across OBL to craft solutions for school process issues, changes and/or requests.

  • Support the implementation of school goals and short- and long-term school-based planning and improvement efforts based on those goals;

  • Assist in the development, in conjunction with Partner School Leadership Team, of operational protocols, procedures, and services – including the effective implementation of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) – to support the achievement of school goals;

  • Collaborate with Operations Support and Training Departments to ensure training focus and materials for teachers and school leaders aligned to best practices and facilitate meeting school goals and completion of school year cycle (SYC) tasks;

  • Act as subject matter expert for all training materials related to SYC tasks (review of help text, annual data view edits/review prior to launch);

  • Participate in the development and execution of annual team initiatives.

  • Assist in the planning of the annual Winter and Summer Leadership Conferences;

  • Serves as substitute for Directors of Schools;

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
