Under the guidance and direction of the Sports Operations and Championships Manager, the Sport Operations and Championships Associate will be responsible for the following:

  • Individual sports planning, including national and invitational championship, planning, logistics, and execution for assigned NJCAA sports.
  • Individual sports planning for athletics communication activities, including but not limited to statistics, writing of sports specific content, social media responsibilities, national rankings platforms, student-athlete awards, and website maintenance. Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Oversight and assistance with Sport Committee meetings including but not limited to poll calls, sport code updates relating to championships, and sport specific award calls for All-American nominees, Student-Athletes of the Year, etc.
  • National Championship and National Invitational host calls in coordination with the Sports Operations and Championships Manager, the Vice President for Championships, Membership, and Sports Governance, and the assigned Sports Committee Chair.
  • Onsite operations for assigned National Championship and National Invitational events, including but not limited to, point of contact for any championship related questions from student-athletes, coaches, athletic directors, and National Office staff, statistical support, NJCAA Network/production assistance, on-site vendor assistance, etc.
  • Onsite pre-championship site visits.
  • Preparation of Pre-Championship/Invitational packets in collaboration with the host site for assigned sports.
  • Assist Sports Operations and Championships Manager with coordination of external vendors (i.e. Official Awards vendor, Official Apparel vendor, Official Film Exchange vendor, etc.)
  • Coordinate championship site travel for Sport Committee Chairs, National Office Staff, Officials, Production team, and Production talent along with coordination of qualifying team travel for assigned sports.
  • Support the Assistant Vice President for Marketing, Development, and Community Outreach with planning and on-site production for all partnership assets.
  • Assist with website rollover to ensure the NJCAA site is updated annually for all sports assigned.
  • Develop and write press releases for assigned sports related to new host site announcements, human interest stories, etc.
  • Communicate with NJCAA membership around statistical entry and communicate any violations to the bylaws related to this national requirement within assigned sports.
  • Evaluate licensed products that may be created for assigned sports including but not limited to student-athlete gifts, championship host volunteer attire, etc.
  • Connect with local media to assist with assigned sport coverage, in particular at National Championship/Invitational sites, to ensure event awareness within each host community while also distributing the NJCAA Media Toolkit where necessary.
  • Assist with social media monitoring and posting to main NJCAA and sport specific social media platforms, including graphic design assistance for content related to assigned sports.

Associate’s Degree Required, Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.

Professional experience in athletic administration, sports information or other collegiate athletic fields preferred.

Demonstrated customer service, organization, leadership, planning, and conflict management skills.

Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, current social media platforms, statistical input entry platforms, and website maintenance preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to establish positive relationships with NJCAA membership, National Championship/Invitational host(s), and National Office staff.

Problem solving skills, judgement, decisiveness, and creativity in evaluating information.

Capable of writing effectively and efficiently.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
